This is a gear and crank operated sculpture. I grew tired of static sculptures after awhile, feeling unchallenged by their simplicity. In any event, I made this, and when the crank on the right is turned, scythes stab, axes chop, the augur drill bit on the top drills (or rotates, at least. Put your hand on top of it and it will count as drilling), centrifugal blades and fish hooks spin, and those saws on the left do what saws usually do (except here, six simultaneous saws spin). A further consequence of turning that crank is one loud fucking piece of noise pollution. This thing is loud, much to my unpredicted pleasure when it was finished, as that was not the original intent. In the end, this thing won't just torture your tender flesh if you get too close to it, but it will also torture your poor ears, no matter where you are.
This thing also doubles as a paper shredder (seriously). Pull the crank and throw those saws on the left some paper, and the paper shall be shredded and caught in the gears and hooks in the guts of The Machine. I suppose one could get creative and throw something more amusing in there (something wet or that squeals, mayhap), but I haven't gotten around to that endeavor yet.
